The crest is taken from the city of Braga’s coat of arms: a red-and-white shield with Our Lady and the infant Jesus at the centre, towers, and a golden mural crown above. Club red and white replace the municipal blue. The design recalls Bracara Augusta and the archiepiscopal tradition behind the nickname Os Arcebispos — not a stylised Roman arch.
Founded on 19 January 1921 in Braga, Sporting Clube de Braga is Minho’s leading club and a regular in Portugal’s Primeira Liga. Nicknamed the Arsenalistas for a red-and-white kit in the Arsenal style, and the Guerreiros do Minho, it has won the Taça de Portugal in 1965/66, 2015/16 and 2020/21, and the Taça da Liga in 2012/13, 2019/20 and 2023/24. It is the only Portuguese side to win the UEFA Intertoto Cup (2008) and reached the 2011 Europa League final in Dublin, losing to FC Porto. Since 2003 it has played at the Estádio Municipal de Braga and become a regular in Europe, including the Champions League.

The Estádio Municipal de Braga, known as A Pedreira (The Quarry), was designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura and opened on 30 December 2003 for UEFA Euro 2004. Cut into a former granite quarry on Monte Castro, it has only two side stands — one carved from the rock, the other in concrete — joined by a cable-suspended roof. Both ends stay open: the cliff on one side, the city on the other. Official capacity: 30,286.
