History
Sunderland AFC, founded in 1879 in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, is a national football reference and a marked continental presence. Known as the Black Cats, it collected First Division titles and historic FA Cups. Rivalry with Newcastle United and a red and white identity shape fans and narrative. Stadium of Light, local support and Tyne-Wear Derby and Stadium of Light sustain the contemporary project. Youth work, management and competitive ambition define the current cycle against historic rivals. The sporting project balances a memory of triumphs with the demands of the modern elite.
