History
Founded on 6 March 1902 as Madrid Football Club, it received the Real title from Alfonso XIII in 1920 and became Real Madrid Club de Fútbol. It holds the record for European Cup / Champions League titles and ranks among the most successful sides in La Liga and the Copa del Rey. Eras of Di Stéfano and five straight European Cups, the Quinta del Buitre, Raúl, Ronaldo and Florentino Pérez’s squads shaped the merengue myth. They play in white at the Santiago Bernabéu, remodelled in the 2020s with a retractable roof. The rivalry with Barcelona (El Clásico) and the derby with Atlético define Madrid’s football calendar.
